About the Role

Aviva Canada Inc. is seeking a Senior Commercial Lines Property and Casualty (P&C) Middle Market Underwriter to join our Aviva Business Insurance (ABI) unit in Winnipeg. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for servicing a substantial portfolio of commercial P&C business, requiring a demonstrated underwriting ability and a commitment to customer service excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Risk Assessment and Evaluation: Assess and evaluate risk for new and existing business, ensuring accurate and timely underwriting decisions.
  2. Underwriting Expertise: Assist more junior underwriters with applying corporate underwriting standards and share knowledge and skills with others in the branch.
  3. Report Analysis: Analyze reports to determine adequate exposure and loss rating, maintaining awareness of market trends, pricing levels, and policy form amendments.
  4. Negotiation and Communication: Negotiate renewal terms for the retention of business, respond to inquiries from brokers regarding modification to policy files, and work with brokers to develop new business.
  5. Broker Relationships: Develop and maintain excellent broker relationships and management of assigned broker portfolio, providing above-average customer service.
Requirements
  1. Commercial P&C Underwriting Experience: 5-10 years of commercial P&C underwriting experience, with a strong understanding of underwriting principles and practices.
  2. Certifications and Education: CIP is preferred, with a strong emphasis on continuous learning and professional development.
  3. Communication and Organizational Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills, with strong organizational and administration skills.
  4. Teamwork and Adaptability: Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with a high level of motivation and enthusiasm.
  5. Technical Skills: Good computer skills, with the ability to meet challenging deadlines and perform effectively under pressure.
