Senior Construction Underwriter

About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Construction Underwriter to join our team in Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary, or Vancouver. As a key player in our construction underwriting team, you will be responsible for underwriting a variety of commercial insurance lines of business, including property and casualty, and some specialty lines.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite Builders Risk and Wrap Up liability policies
- Analyze new business and project extensions and provide terms based upon our underwriting guidelines
- Develop clear and concise underwriting proposals for accounts which may fall outside underwriting authority
- Negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing within the parameters of our program underwriting guidelines/authorities
- Identify opportunities to upsell coverage, limits, or products
- Provide high-level service with a customer service focus and solutions-oriented approach
- Build a network of relationships with our brokers and various markets
- Be involved in the training and development for more junior underwriters/underwriting assistants
- Monitor and assess competitive factors in the marketplace and keep your team informed of any changing market conditions
Requirements
- 5+ years of project construction underwriting experience
- 5-10 years of commercial property and casualty experience in the contracting sector is an asset
- Cross-Canada underwriting experience is an asset
- AIIC/CIP and/or FCIP designation
- Strong decision-making skills
- Ability to be creative to solve problems
- Robust analytical skills
- Ability to communicate your thought process clearly and concisely required
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Understands the time sensitivity of the project construction market
- Team player
- Experience mentoring or training more junior staff is an asset
- Proficient in MS Excel and Outlook
