Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Underwriting Lead to join our team at Manitoba Public Insurance. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing underwriting guidelines, standards, and practices for our Special Risk Extension (SRE) line of business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute underwriting controls and standards for SRE, ensuring consistency and quality in underwriting practices.
  • Design and deliver underwriting standards, practices, and tools to support portfolio and individual risk underwriting.
  • Oversee core quality assurance controls, ensuring adherence to minimum standards and conducting audits in an objective, independent, and risk-based manner.
  • Collaborate with management and underwriting teams to ensure consistency in underwriting quality and execution, and develop productive working relationships with business partners.
  • Assess the execution of underwriting controls and standards, identify trends, and recommend corrective actions to the business.
  • Stay current on provincial and federal issues and regulations, industry activity and trends, and share information with others.
  • Provide guidance and direction in the development of underwriting and training tools, and oversee internal and external underwriting audits.
  • Recommend, develop, and approve new products, forms, and coverage enhancements, and develop underwriting guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide input into the department's strategic goals to support the corporate vision, and contribute to the development of multi-year tactical solutions.
Requirements
  • Degree or diploma in business administration or a related discipline.
  • Completion of the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP or FCIP) designation.
  • Seven years of related, progressive experience in an insurance environment, including experience in commercial and/or fleet underwriting.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations, policies, procedures, and practices applicable to automobile insurance and registration.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of underwriting practices for automobile, general liability, and motor truck cargo.
  • Demonstrated experience working with business partners and relationship building.
