Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Administrative Assistant to provide support to our Research Chairs. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating administrative tasks, managing finances, and providing exceptional customer service to our research community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative support to 11 Research Chairs, including Canada Research Chairs, BC Regional Innovation Chairs, and Michael Smith Health Research BC
  • Manage financial transactions, including expense claims and payment requisitions
  • Coordinate research recruitment and renewal processes, including scheduling meetings and preparing job postings
  • Develop and maintain web pages for each Research Chair and their related research projects
  • Ensure compliance with external funding agency guidelines and institutional policies
Requirements
  • One-year Certificate in Office Administration or equivalent
  • Five years of recent related experience, including experience in a post-secondary environment
  • Senior level MS Office and web-page maintenance skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently to meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of VIU policies, procedures, systems, and processes
  • Familiarity with Tri-Agency guidelines
  • Previous experience working in a Research environment
