Position Overview
The City of Coquitlam is offering an exciting opportunity for a Human Resources Advisor to fill a temporary full-time position for approximately 15 months. This role is designed to support the team during a maternity leave. You will collaborate with a group of dedicated Human Resources Advisors and Assistants, all reporting to the Employment and HR Advisory Services Manager.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will serve as a vital resource for departmental managers and staff throughout the City, acting as a strategic partner in various human resources matters, including:
- Recruitment processes
- Interpretation of collective agreements
- Attendance management
- Job classifications
- Employee relations
- Other aspects of the employee lifecycle
You will work closely with colleagues from the Health and Safety, Labour Relations, and Organizational Development and Training teams to ensure a cohesive approach to human resources.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A minimum of three to five years of relevant experience at the Coordinator or Advisor level
- An undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Commerce, or Human Resource Management
- A CPHR designation (preferred)
- Experience in labour relations and/or the municipal sector (considered an asset)
Essential Skills
To succeed in this fast-paced environment, you should demonstrate:
- Experience in a unionized or public sector work setting
- Ability to provide sound advice in accordance with collective agreements and internal policies
- Proficiency in managing tight deadlines
- Familiarity with Applicant Tracking Systems, Peoplesoft, and other HR information systems
- Advanced technical skills in MS Office (particularly Word, Outlook, and Excel) and Adobe
- A comprehensive understanding of recruitment practices in both unionized and excluded environments
- Strong political acumen and attention to detail
- A capacity to thrive in a dynamic, progressive workplace
