Position Overview

As a Registered Respiratory Therapist in Medicine / Respirology , your primary objective will be to foster a patient and family-centered care approach. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, ensuring a supportive and culturally sensitive environment. Your clinical expertise and technical skills will be essential as you adapt to changing priorities and engage in continuous professional development. Strong interpersonal skills will enable you to connect effectively with physicians, staff, patients, and families. In this role, you will advocate for and deliver outstanding healthcare services. Additionally, you will contribute to the hospital's academic mission by advancing care through teaching and research initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate within interprofessional healthcare teams to care for adult, pediatric, and newborn patients across various units including Critical Care, Emergency Department, Inpatient Units, Labour & Delivery, Neonatal Intensive Care, and Operating Room.
  • Manage ventilation, including weaning and discontinuation processes.
  • Participate as a member of Code Teams and Critical Care Response Teams.
  • Assist in high-risk deliveries by performing neonatal resuscitation.
  • Conduct airway management procedures, including intubations and tracheostomy tube insertions.
  • Insert arterial lines as required.
  • Administer medications related to respiratory care.
  • Perform diagnostic tests, including the procurement and interpretation of arterial blood gases, and assist with bronchoscopies.
  • Supervise, instruct, and evaluate students as designated by the clinical coordinator.
  • Educate patients, families, caregivers, and healthcare professionals on respiratory care practices.
  • Demonstrate the ability to lift and position patients and necessary equipment.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited institution.
  • Registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification is mandatory.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is mandatory.
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification is mandatory.
  • Experience in adult intubation and radial arterial line insertion is required.
  • Membership with C.S.R.T. and R.T.S.O. is preferred.
  • Experience in neonatal intubation is preferred.
