This role is crucial for guaranteeing that all products produced for the European Union (EU) and UK markets adhere to both Toy World Magazine's and industry quality benchmarks. The Quality Assurance Director for Europe will leverage their expertise to make informed decisions that align with the interests of the company, customers, and consumers. Address all safety-related concerns with the relevant authorities in the European Union.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Champion quality and performance enhancements throughout the organization, ensuring alignment with global operational practices and protocols.
  • Keep abreast of the legal landscape concerning product safety, environmental stewardship, and social accountability to identify changes that may affect company operations.
  • Serve as the Quality/Safety liaison among all EU Sales team members, the Hong Kong office, and the main office.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory legislation regarding manufacturing processes, while proactively monitoring upcoming or draft EN/EU standards and communicating relevant updates to quality teams and management.
  • Assess social responsibility expectations from stakeholders (primarily licensors and clients) and ensure adherence to these standards.
  • Thoroughly investigate all test failures and rejections, identify root causes, and implement corrective measures. Lead the resolution of critical quality challenges both internally and externally.
  • Engage directly with third-party testing laboratories to ensure smooth processing of our products, and collaborate with laboratory experts to find favorable solutions for ambiguous interpretations.
  • Participate in the planning of new product launches for the EU, providing development insights through Primary Concerns Documentation to ensure products are developed in accordance with EU regulations and guidelines.
  • Act as a liaison with Packaging and Copywriting teams to ensure that all copy and information materials comply with applicable EU legal standards and requirements.
  • Maintain the EU Quality Assurance Database, which includes all QA documentation such as testing reports, failure status reports, required certifications, and regulatory compliance documents.
  • Collaborate closely with in-house Legal Counsel as needed to address quality assurance matters that require reporting to the Directorate General within the European Commission.
  • Communicate with major EU retail accounts to understand their specific requirements across various product categories.
  • Coordinate with the Hong Kong office to ensure compliance with retailers' specific requirements.

Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of both domestic and international safety and quality standards for toys and children's consumer products.
  • Familiarity with RoHS & WEEE regulations.
  • Proficient in PC applications: Windows XP, Microsoft Office.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technical, Science, or Chemical fields.
  • 5-10 years of experience in Quality Assurance Management or a related field, preferably within the toy industry.
  • Six Sigma and/or other professional certifications are preferred.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership abilities.
  • Strong grasp of regulatory requirements for the manufacture of products in Europe.
  • Extensive knowledge of regulatory compliance and the capability to negotiate with local authorities.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Membership in the European Toy Association and other technical committees is highly desirable.
