Calgary, Alberta, Canada Government of Alberta Full time

Role Responsibilities

Senior Cultural Education Analyst:

The Culture unit plays a pivotal role in enhancing the knowledge and skills of staff within Children and Family Services (CFS) regarding Indigenous cultures, histories, and aspirations. This is achieved through the implementation of the Indigenous Cultural Understanding Framework (ICUF), which ensures that CFS personnel have a thorough comprehension of Indigenous peoples and communities. This understanding is crucial for integrating Indigenous values, beliefs, and histories into all facets of ministry operations. The unit also aids CFS staff in engaging with Indigenous clients, partners, and communities in a culturally sensitive manner, promoting effective communication and collaboration. Additionally, it champions the incorporation of strategies that address the needs of Indigenous populations, emphasizing the importance of an 'Indigenous lens' in various ministry processes.

Furthermore, the Culture unit is dedicated to fostering robust relationships with both internal and external Indigenous community partners. In this capacity, the analyst plays a vital role in advancing the ICUF, undertaking responsibilities such as assessing its effectiveness, conducting research and analysis, and managing contracts for educational opportunities provided through ICUF. These efforts significantly contribute to enhancing cultural understanding, responsiveness, and inclusivity within CFS operations.

Indigenous Connections Advisor:

Reporting to the Manager of Indigenous Connections, the Indigenous Connections Advisor serves as a key liaison and consultant to the ministry, proactively working to strengthen relationships across the province. These connections are instrumental in shaping the direction, design, and execution of ministry plans, policies, and programs. This role is part of a team that promotes a collaborative culture within the ministry.

The advisor is expected to cultivate, enhance, and sustain collaborative relationships, inform the development of effective public policy and programs, and engage in strategic planning to ensure awareness of emerging issues and directions. This involves coordinating actions and providing essential input in the development and delivery of ministry engagement with Indigenous leadership and communities. The position demands exceptional writing and analytical skills, a high level of political acumen, knowledge of diverse Indigenous governance structures, and the ability to work autonomously.

Additional responsibilities include determining, designing, and implementing optimal approaches for collaboration with Indigenous communities, as well as managing grants for funded initiatives, which encompasses monitoring and reporting on financial progress, milestones, and deliverables.
