Indigenous Wellness Navigator Role Summary:

Wood's Homes is seeking a dedicated Indigenous Wellness Navigator to support the healing journeys of children, families, and communities. The successful candidate will have lived experience and cultural knowledge of many different nations, with the ability to share and use teachings that benefit the clients we serve.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate and support quality Indigenous practices in a safe, developmentally appropriate, clinically relevant, and culturally sensitive manner.
  • Exercise sound judgement when sharing cultural practices and ensure they are relevant to the therapeutic goals of the client/family.
  • Manage cultural offerings and communicate ceremonial aspects agency-wide.
  • Attend Individual Case Plan meetings and work effectively with clinical and other front-line staff members to provide a culturally responsible therapeutic milieu.
  • Support the development and presentation of agency-wide trainings and teachings.

Qualifications:

  • Lived experience and self-identification as an Indigenous person.
  • Cultural knowledge of many different nations and the ability to share and use teachings that benefit the clients we serve.
  • Appreciation for cultural differences between Nations and promotion of good relations within multiple communities.
  • Ability to connect and support Elders, Knowledge Keepers during ceremonies, and other cultural-related engagements.

Education and Experience:

  • Diploma/Undergraduate Degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Nursing, or other relevant Social Sciences.
  • Minimum of two years related experience or extensive Indigenous Cultural and Ceremonial Practice Knowledge in lieu of post-secondary educational requirements.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Class 5 driver's license and own transportation.
  • Criminal Record Check and Intervention Record Check required upon hire.
