Position Overview

Summary:

The selected candidate will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists on various projects, focusing on water resource management, civil engineering, and associated technical tasks. Responsibilities may encompass hydrologic assessments for both rural and urban environments; hydraulic analysis and design concerning rivers, streams, conveyances, dams, and other hydraulic infrastructures; watershed management; impact evaluations; natural channel design; and liaising with clients, regulatory bodies, and public officials. The role may also involve leading project teams with diverse technical expertise and disciplines. The position may require short-term, out-of-town assignments, either in the field or at different company offices.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, or related engineering disciplines with an emphasis on water resources
  • 10 years of consulting experience in water resources engineering
  • Experience in project management
  • Proficiency in analyzing precipitation and flooding data; conducting hydrologic analysis and modeling; performing open channel hydraulic analysis; designing hydraulic structures; implementing bank stabilization and stream restoration; flood modeling and mapping; and conducting dam break assessments
  • Familiarity with industry-standard hydrologic and hydraulic modeling techniques and software
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and GIS applications
  • Experience in budget management, scope definition, and proposal development
  • Knowledge of water resources data collection techniques
  • Able to manage multiple project timelines, budgets, and scopes
  • Experience in providing technical mentorship and guidance to junior staff
  • Proficient in client relations and business development
  • Professional Engineer registration with APEGA
  • Adaptable working style with a willingness to adjust personal schedules to meet project deadlines and client requirements
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada without sponsorship from Barr Engineering Co.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD degree(s) in civil, environmental, or related engineering fields
  • 11+ years of consulting experience in water resources engineering
  • Eligibility for registration with APEGS and EGBC
  • Experience with hydrologic modeling and 1D, 2D, and 3D hydraulic modeling software, as well as water quality modeling
  • Experience in mine water management and utilizing GoldSim for water balance modeling
  • Familiarity with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling tools
  • Experience in climate change assessments and modeling
  • Experience in site development design, including plans, specifications, and contract documentation
  • Fieldwork experience, including construction observation and surveying

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position, allowing for a combination of office and remote work. Note that some work environments may involve challenging terrain typical of construction sites or require the handling of equipment. Safety training and drug screening will be mandatory for certain clients.
