Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated Environmental Health & Safety Specialist to enhance our Environmental Health & Safety department. This role is crucial in ensuring adherence to health and safety standards while promoting a culture of safety within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with environmental laws and internal policies.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify environmental risks and propose corrective measures.
  • Maintain comprehensive records related to environmental compliance, including waste management and air quality.
  • Perform safety inspections of facilities and equipment to uphold safety regulations.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions and practices, ensuring follow-up on corrective actions.
  • Assist in developing and delivering training programs focused on EHS for employees.
  • Support investigations of accidents and incidents to determine root causes and recommend preventive actions.
  • Prepare and submit necessary environmental and safety reports to regulatory bodies.
  • Stay informed on changes in EHS regulations to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Aid in the safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Participate in sustainability initiatives aimed at environmental conservation and waste reduction.
  • Assist with Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB) claims, emphasizing early and safe return to work.

Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of experience in an Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) role within a manufacturing context is preferred.
  • Professional EHS certification (e.g., EP, CRSP, AE, CET) is a significant advantage.
  • Familiarity with WSIB claims processing.
  • Experience with Ontario health and safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of the Environmental Protection Act.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills across all organizational levels.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
  • Experience with employee wellness programs and health promotion initiatives.
  • Capacity to build and maintain trust among employees to enhance safety culture.
  • Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving abilities.
  • Highly motivated with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
