Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Financial Governance Board Member to join our team. As a key member of our board, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing the financial operations of Forging Ahead Inc.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Management: Oversee and manage the financial operations of Forging Ahead Inc., ensuring compliance with Canadian charity financial regulations and CRA requirements.
  • Budgeting and Financial Planning: Develop and manage budgets, providing financial oversight and reporting to the board.
  • Financial Reporting: Coordinate and oversee annual audits and ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Financial Risk Management: Identify and mitigate financial risks.
  • Fundraising: Engage in fundraising efforts and support the development of financial strategies.
  • Communication: Participate in formal and informal meetings to discuss and explain the current financial status, plans, and structure.
  • Onboarding: Ensure a smooth and transparent financial integration process for new board members and volunteers.
  • Support: Support veterans and first responders by understanding their financial needs related to PTSD and OSI symptoms.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Proven experience in accounting or financial management, preferably within non-profit or charitable organizations.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of Canadian accounting standards and practices for non-profits.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Understanding of CRA regulations and compliance requirements for charities.
  • Skills: Experience in budgeting, financial forecasting, and planning. Strong organizational and analytical skills. Ability to work collaboratively with the President and other board members. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Training in mental health and mindfulness practices. Experience working with veterans and first responders, particularly those with PTSD and OSI symptoms.
  • Personal Qualities: Demonstrated commitment to ethical standards and transparency. Willingness to dedicate significant time and effort to the role.
