About the Opportunity

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health Services Leader to join our Primary Health Care team. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for advancing the priorities of our portfolio by supporting the ongoing development and implementation of assigned Primary Health Care, Wellness, Chronic Disease Management, and Department of Family Practice programs, services, and initiatives.

The Health Services Leader will work closely with other members of the Primary Health Care leadership team to implement multiple Primary Health Care projects and initiatives to support the advancement of patient-centered, community-based primary health care programs and services within our Zone.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the day-to-day operations of the collaborative family practice, wellness, and chronic disease teams spanning multiple sites in the Antigonish area.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with health care staff, other Zone-based NSH departments and teams, external individuals, and partner agencies.
  • Work collaboratively with Family Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, and other interprofessional teams to manage operational requirements, performance standards, and support quality improvements.
  • Develop and implement strategies to advance the priorities of our portfolio and support the ongoing development and implementation of assigned programs, services, and initiatives.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to team members to ensure the successful implementation of projects and initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Baccalaureate degree from a health discipline or related field.
  • Minimum of three to five years' recent and related progressive leadership experience in a health care setting.
  • Experience in primary health care, specifically family medicine, will be considered an asset.
  • Experience working with physicians, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses, among other health professionals, will be considered an asset.
  • Current registration with a professional association (if applicable).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of primary health care, health promotion, health determinants, and dynamics of health needs in community.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (oral, written, and presentation) skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with various professional and community individuals.
  • Demonstrated experience with budget and resource management.
  • Demonstrated experience in program development, project management, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation in community settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with physicians and other stakeholders across multiple governance structures to establish and sustain strong collaborative family practice teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective collaborative relationships and partnerships with stakeholders and clients.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a unionized environment will be considered an asset.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle is required.
  • Travel will be required.
  • Competencies in other languages will be considered an asset, with French preferred.
