Position Overview:
Located in Ottawa, Ontario, the Project Engineering Specialist will report directly to the Project Engineering Manager. This role encompasses a diverse range of responsibilities primarily focused on overseeing daily operations within the Project Engineering team, which is accountable for executing all cross-disciplinary engineering projects for both external and internal clients at Gastops. The position integrates both project management and systems engineering functions essential for delivering highly dependable products designed for harsh environments in mission-critical applications.

Key Responsibilities:
The Project Engineering Specialist will be an integral part of the Project Engineering team, concentrating on the execution of various internal and external projects by directing cross-disciplinary engineering resources. Responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing one or more cross-disciplinary engineering projects through all stages of the product lifecycle.
  • Developing, managing, and maintaining comprehensive project plans to drive team milestones to completion.
  • Providing updates on internal and external project reviews, status reports, and performance metrics.
  • Identifying and managing project risks, including contingency planning and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Managing client and system-level requirements and translating them into lower-level specifications.
  • Ensuring the accuracy of project documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Owning and managing system-level design documentation and addressing any issues that arise.
  • Identifying and resolving technical challenges encountered during the project.
  • Facilitating communication across various cross-disciplinary teams to ensure project objectives are achieved.
  • Ensuring compliance with client project and product requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Reviewing and ensuring adherence to project management, systems engineering, and quality assurance processes.
  • Supporting the development of significant project engineering initiatives, budgets, and strategic roadmaps.
  • Collaborating closely with the Project Engineering Manager to implement major departmental initiatives.
  • Assisting in the daily operations of the Project Engineering team.

Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate will possess an engineering degree or equivalent, along with 5-10 years of demonstrated experience in project management and systems engineering. Additionally, candidates should have:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in cross-disciplinary engineering project management.
  • At least 5 years of systems engineering experience.
  • 5 years of experience in design for manufacturability.
  • 5 years of full product lifecycle management experience.
  • 5 years of experience managing technical and/or resource teams.
  • 5 years of experience in designing high-reliability aerospace or similar products.
  • Significant experience in designing to international product standards.
  • Experience in obtaining international product certifications.
  • A Canadian professional engineering license or in the process of obtaining one.
  • Additional Considerations: Experience in airborne hardware/software project management in regulated environments, safety-critical product design, and related fields will be an asset.
