Grounds Maintenance Technician at Olds College of Agriculture and Technology

Position Overview:
The Grounds Maintenance Technician will be responsible for managing the upkeep of the college's grounds, which includes tasks such as landscaping, planting, mowing, and pest control.
Primary Duties:
- Utilize various machinery for grounds upkeep
- Assist the Grounds team as needed
- Supervise general maintenance and landscape development
- Assess tree vitality and organize tree pruning
- Implement comprehensive pest management strategies
- Guide summer interns
- Prepare planting areas and trim trees and shrubs
- Support campus waste management initiatives
- Ensure work orders are completed and develop maintenance protocols
- Monitor expenses and assist with budgeting processes
Required Qualifications:
- ISA certified Arborist or willingness to obtain certification
- Diploma in Horticulture or a related discipline preferred
- 3-5 years of hands-on experience in grounds maintenance
- Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operator's License is mandatory
- Pesticide Applicators license is essential
- Strong leadership and decision-making abilities
- Experience in a team lead role is advantageous
- Ability to collaborate with a diverse group
- Basic computer proficiency
- Physically capable and adaptable to various weather conditions
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of a Clear Criminal Reference check
- Adherence to health and safety regulations
