About the Role

As an Actuarial Manager/Specialist at Aviva, you will be responsible for leading a highly technical team in the development and maintenance of data science products and models. Your expertise in actuarial science and/or data science will be essential in providing technical support and development opportunities to your team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership: Oversee the growth and maintenance of a high-performing technical team focused on data science.
  • Technical Support: Provide learning and growth opportunities to the team based on your technical proficiency in actuarial and data science.
  • Data Science Product Development: Oversee the development of data science products, models, and other data-driven outputs while supplying technical support when necessary.
  • Collaboration: Ensure tight-knit collaboration with all relevant partners, technical teams, and users across the organization.
  • Data-Driven Solutions: Straddle the worlds of insurance professionals, data scientists, and engineers to prioritize data-driven solutions.
  • Business Partnerships: Work closely with business partners to understand day-to-day challenges and key areas of opportunity for innovation and growth.
  • Communication: Frequent communication with the business lead and managers of business areas impacted by your work.
  • User Engagement: Direct communication with users of insights, tools, and processes.
  • Data Innovation: Engage directly with users, empathize with their experience, and use data to advise decisions.
  • Model Monitoring: Model monitoring to ensure the ongoing quality of pricing models.
  • Tool Development: The development of tools that give non-technical users access to ingestible data and insights.
  • Process Integration: Smoother integration of data science into crucial business areas, either as novel entries or improvements to existing processes or tools.
  • Communication and Presentation: Communicating and presenting data science solutions, results, and outcomes up to a VP level.
Requirements
  • Education: Undergraduate degree in Actuarial Science, Data Science, or other related fields, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: At least five years of experience working in an Actuarial Science or Data Science driven organization or team.
  • Leadership Experience: Demonstrable experience leading technical professionals in managerial or senior technical roles are preferred.
  • Technical Proficiency: Ideal candidates have experience in applying data science and/or computer science in the P&C insurance space.
  • Programming Skills: Expert proficiency in at least one programming language, preferably Python. A proficiency strong enough to mentor.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills and comfort communicating sophisticated ideas appropriately for senior leadership and non-technical audiences.
  • UI/UX Design: Understanding of UI/UX design and how it impacts the user experience.
  • Usability Assessment: Ability to assess and improve the usability and design of a solution.
