About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Actuarial Director and Product Specialist to join our Retail Actuarial team at Empire Life. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading the pricing analysis, modelling, and performance monitoring of our Individual Life and Health new business portfolio.

Key Responsibilities
  • Pricing Analysis and Modelling: Lead the development and implementation of pricing strategies for our Individual Life and Health products, ensuring sound pricing practices and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Product Development: Collaborate with our Product Development team to review new product opportunities and changes to existing products, providing actuarial expertise and guidance.
  • Risk Management: Present pricing and risk management recommendations to senior management teams, ensuring that our products are priced appropriately to manage risk and achieve business objectives.
  • Actuarial Expertise: Provide actuarial subject matter expertise on in-force product reviews, ensuring that our products remain competitive and compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and coordinate the work of Retail Actuarial employees involved in product development, ensuring that projects are completed on time and to a high standard.
  • Reinsurance Partnerships: Liaise with reinsurance partners to support ongoing product development of our Individual Life and Health new business portfolio.
  • Compliance: Ensure that all pricing activities are compliant with relevant corporate policies and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
  • Actuarial Designations: Completion of FSA and/or FCIA designation.
  • Work Experience: 8-10 years of relevant work experience in actuarial roles within the life insurance industry.
  • Actuarial Skills: Advanced actuarial and modelling skills, including practical experience in the pricing of insurance products.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced working knowledge of spreadsheet, database, and word processing software, as well as AXIS actuarial application.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop recommendations that balance competing objectives.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Industry Knowledge: Working knowledge of accounting standards and regulatory capital requirements for the Canadian life insurance industry.
