As a key member of our team, you will leverage an extensive network of resources and expertise, collaborating on innovative projects with a diverse group of professionals, including toxicologists, biologists, risk assessment experts, environmental monitoring specialists, and engineers.

The Role:

In this senior leadership position, you will guide a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to addressing intricate water quality challenges for clients across various sectors in Western Canada. This role is situated within the Environmental Management team in BC and Yukon, comprising over 20 professionals specializing in toxicology, risk assessment, and environmental monitoring. As a Senior Environmental Scientist, you will engage with our environmental assessment, permitting, water quality, and mining divisions on projects for clients spanning multiple industries. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, water quality monitoring, permit applications, environmental impact assessments, aquatic effects assessments, risk evaluations, and specialized toxicology services. You will be part of a well-established water and sediment monitoring team within Environmental Management and join one of the largest risk assessment and toxicology teams in the BC and Yukon region.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement water quality, sediment quality, and aquatic effects monitoring programs for various sectors in BC and resource development projects throughout Western Canada and the North.
  • Lead and mentor project teams responsible for program design, data collection, assessment, and reporting.
  • Oversee project teams throughout the project lifecycle, demonstrating a successful track record in delivering complex water quality and environmental effects monitoring projects.
  • Ensure quality assurance and quality control during data collection and reporting.
  • Utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills to effectively communicate scientific findings to non-scientific audiences.
  • Support clients in their regulatory and engagement efforts with Indigenous groups, stakeholders, and the public.
  • Prepare technical reports for submission to regulatory authorities.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines as needed to fulfill project deliverables.
  • Exhibit strong project management, coordination, and planning skills to meet client timelines and budgets.
  • Demonstrate strong client development capabilities.
Qualifications:
  • University degree in environmental science, toxicology, biological sciences, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred, though significant work experience may be considered equivalent.
  • Professional Registration as a Registered Professional Biologist or eligibility for registration.
  • 12 to 15+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proven leadership skills in guiding teams of scientists throughout project lifecycles.
  • Positive, enthusiastic attitude with a willingness to mentor and share knowledge.
  • Self-motivated and adaptable, with the ability to think creatively.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills for team guidance and mentorship.
  • Effective communication skills at all levels, including with clients, stakeholders, and regulators.
  • In-depth knowledge of BC and CCME water quality guidelines and their application in assessments.
  • Understanding of the Environmental Assessment process in BC, with experience in regulatory submissions and stakeholder engagement.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Commitment to health and safety practices.
Compensation
Expected Salary (British Columbia): $119,400 - $164,200

The final salary may vary based on factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and organizational needs. This salary range is subject to change for business purposes.
