We work collaboratively with First Nations communities to empower self-determination and deliver culturally safe, high-quality healthcare services.

About the Role

As an Environmental Health Officer, you will play a vital role in protecting the health and safety of First Nations communities. You will travel to various locations across the Secwépemc territory, providing essential public health services such as:

  • Safe Drinking Water Program implementation and monitoring
  • Housing assessments and inspections
  • Food safety program oversight
  • Communicable disease control measures
  • Emergency management support

This is a part-time (0.5 FTE) position offering flexible hours, with core hours between 9 am and 3 pm.

About You

To excel in this role, you will possess:

  • A Bachelor of Technology Degree in Environmental Health or Public Health Inspection recognized by the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI)
  • Six months of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • A Certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada) granted by the CIPHI
  • Additional certifications such as Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Onsite Wastewater Management, CSA Playground Inspector, and Small Water System Operation are highly desirable
  • In-depth knowledge of current legislation, guidelines, standards, and policies within environmental public health programs, including their implications for First Nations communities
  • The ability to gather, analyze, and synthesize scientific evidence from environmental monitoring data and effectively communicate it in clear, concise terms
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to read and interpret scientific literature and research
