We are seeking a Senior Bridge Engineer with extensive experience to guide a team of seasoned professionals and technical specialists. The successful candidate will oversee service quality within the unit, develop and implement strategies to ensure excellence in service delivery, and drive profitable growth to meet the objectives of our business line.

The Bridge division is engaged in the pursuit and execution of significant bridge and structure rehabilitation and design projects throughout Ontario. In addition to steering the direction of the team, you will leverage your expertise in bridge engineering and construction methodologies to manage and successfully execute multidisciplinary bridge inspection, analysis, rehabilitation, and design projects for both private and public sector clients, from initial planning through detailed design and into construction.

Key Responsibilities:

Inspire, mentor, and develop a diverse team of senior specialists by recruiting, setting objectives, and evaluating performance to ensure staff are equipped, motivated, and possess the necessary skills to achieve program objectives. Formulate and execute the business plan for the unit, ensuring the team comprehends their roles in achieving it through the cultivation of an appropriate culture and the provision of context and clarity. Spearhead the identification and targeting of clients by delivering exceptional service to foster organic revenue growth within the business unit. Cultivate lasting relationships with clients to understand their business needs, ensuring satisfaction to enhance retention and promote organic revenue growth. Coach and guide team leaders and service leaders to ensure all projects are positioned for success and adhere to appropriate governance, thereby improving client satisfaction. Oversee the production, supervision, and management of engineering deliverables for a wide range of small to large bridge rehabilitation and new design projects from concept through construction, ensuring they meet and exceed customer quality standards. Lead a team in defining project scope, preparing budgets and schedules, planning work, and providing technical direction and oversight. Prepare and review detailed engineering calculations, models, drawings, specifications, quantities, cost estimates, technical reports, procurement documents, design packages, proposals, and comprehensive analyses. Provide technical engineering support during construction, including reviewing contractor submissions. Conduct inspections of complex existing bridges and other structures, coordinating and leading inspection teams and specialized sub-consultants, providing recommendations for renewal and repair, and performing life cycle cost analyses. Lead successful project pursuits, including determining budget estimates and staffing needs, and crafting compelling proposals. Offer input and technical guidance to CAD Designers/Drafters, Designers, and junior Engineers involved in the same and other projects.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

A 4-year degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited institution. A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in bridge engineering design, including inspection, analysis, load-rating, design, and construction. Experience in seismic analysis and design is advantageous. Strong communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and collaborative abilities. The capability to provide effective technical mentoring to junior engineers. Licensure as a Professional Engineer in Ontario, Alberta, or BC. Proficiency with the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CSA S6) and familiarity with AT Standards, ON MOT standards, and BC MOTI standards. Technical acumen in bridge engineering design and analysis principles. Excellent skills in technical report writing. Proficiency in 3D modeling analysis software (CSI Bridge or MIDAS Civil).
