Project Overview

The Woodfibre LNG initiative is situated near Squamish, British Columbia, and focuses on the establishment and functioning of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the site of the former Woodfibre pulp mill. This facility is designed to have a storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and aims to produce around 2.1 million tons of LNG annually.

Role Summary

The Construction Cost Manager plays a crucial role within the Woodfibre LNG team. The ideal candidate will be integrated into the owner's project management team (PMT), overseeing the EPC contractor and managing all facets of financial planning, including cost estimation, budget formulation, and collaboration with the team to assess any design modifications and their financial implications. This position demands strong analytical capabilities, effective communication skills, and meticulous attention to detail while working closely with EPC contractors.

Key Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Analyzing construction blueprints and determining quantity requirements.
  • Communicating with site supervisors, clients, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Assessing and valuing work completed on-site.
  • Generating reports, analyses, contracts, budgets, risk assessments, and other necessary documentation.
  • Producing precise material and cost estimates and budgets; performing cost evaluations.
  • Monitoring project advancement, benchmarking quantities, and conducting forecasting.
  • Ensuring adherence to applicable standards, regulations, and best practices; executing quality inspections.
  • Reviewing maintenance and material expenses, as well as contracts, to secure optimal agreements.
  • Tracking materials and ordering additional supplies as needed.
  • Documenting design alterations and adjusting budgets accordingly.
  • Building and maintaining professional relationships with both external and internal stakeholders.
  • Traveling between the office and various project sites as required.

Qualifications:

Essential Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in quantity surveying, construction management, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 10 years of pertinent experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction processes and associated costs.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, CostX / PRISM / MARIAN or similar software, along with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Exceptional numerical, analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Capability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team, exhibiting strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Outstanding negotiation and interpersonal abilities.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience collaborating with large, multi-disciplinary teams and contractors in diverse environments is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills – capable of engaging with personnel at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrates accountability and commitment to achieving objectives and deadlines.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

  • This position is based in Squamish, BC, with initial assignments at the EPC contractor's office, followed by travel to module fabrication yards in the Asia-Pacific region and visits to the company's Vancouver office as necessary.

Compensation
