About the Role

Become an integral part of the initiative to enhance Mobile Crisis services, supporting the national suicide crisis line. This 3-digit helpline provides urgent, live, and trauma-informed assistance via phone and text around the clock. Join our established interdisciplinary mobile crisis team as we continue our commitment to fostering positive change and assisting individuals in crisis.

As a Crisis Intervener on the Provincial Crisis Team, under the guidance of the Health Services Manager, you will deliver essential crisis support services to individuals facing mental health challenges, as well as to community organizations and their families or friends.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing the caller's situation and conducting clinical evaluations of their mental health status.
  • Providing culturally sensitive and non-judgmental support, education, and problem-solving facilitation.
  • Making referrals to appropriate services and resources as necessary.
  • Implementing crisis prevention, intervention, and follow-up strategies.
  • Engaging in both telephonic and community-based interventions.

In this role, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, offering support and consultation as needed, while also participating in program development, evaluation, and ongoing quality improvement. You will be responsible for delivering integrated crisis intervention services alongside various partners across the age spectrum.


Qualifications

We welcome applications from candidates who possess the following:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Social Work or Nursing, or equivalent qualifications in Occupational Therapy or Clinical Psychology, with current licensure and registration in Nova Scotia.
  • One to two years of experience with a strong understanding of mental health issues.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention strategies and the ability to implement evidence-based outcomes.
  • Familiarity with community and government services and resources.
  • Training in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, Suicide Intervention, and CPR.
  • Understanding of the Hospitals Act as it relates to Mental Health.
  • Skills for effective phone and on-site assessment and intervention.
  • Knowledge of community resources and relevant legislation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with proficient computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team and the community.
  • Awareness of current social, health, and community trends affecting service access.
  • Adherence to district and service policies and procedures.
  • A valid Nova Scotia Driver's License is considered an asset.
  • Competencies in additional languages are advantageous, with French preferred.

Work Schedule
  • Permanent Part-Time; 50% FTE; 37.5 Hours Bi-weekly.
  • Service operates 24/7.
  • Rotating shifts including holidays, evenings, weekends, and nights.
  • Free onsite parking is available.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly wage for this position is competitive.
