Job Title: Business Development Manager

Job Summary:

As a Business Development Manager at Sun Life Financial, you will be responsible for leading a team of underwriters and underwriting assistants in the quote, renewal, and financial underwriting of small and mid-size accounts business. You will be accountable for ensuring that the team meets the company's targets and underwriting policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of underwriters and underwriting assistants in the quote, renewal, and financial underwriting of small and mid-size accounts business.
  • Ensure that the team meets the company's targets and underwriting policies.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve team performance and productivity.
  • Provide guidance and support to team members on underwriting and risk analysis principles and techniques.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners, including account executives, business development directors, and group benefit market players.
  • Ensure that the appropriate risk assumptions, pricing practices, and procedures are applied.
  • Ensure underwriting policies, practices, and guidelines are rolled-out, understood, and adhered to.
  • Manage financial reporting, participate in development action plans, and address issues as they arise.
  • Support preparation and participate in quarterly business segment meetings with upper management.
  • Coach, manage, and enable the development of team members.
  • Ensure service standards, productivity, and quality targets are met.
  • Support and participate in the identification of opportunities to continually enhance operations, namely through the Continuous Improvement process of Brighter Way Management System.
  • Provide advice and expertise on financial, underwriting, and business issues to team members, business development partners, management, advisors, and clients.
  • Participate/contribute as part of the Central Corporate Accounts Underwriting Management Team, including projects and initiatives as required.

Requirements:

  • Previous people management experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including flexibility/creativity in order to respect client's unique needs while considering impact on risk.
  • Capacity to manage change initiatives.
