Job Summary:
As a Business Development Manager at Sun Life Financial, you will be responsible for leading a team of underwriters and underwriting assistants in the quote, renewal, and financial underwriting of small and mid-size accounts business. You will be accountable for ensuring that the team meets the company's targets and underwriting policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of underwriters and underwriting assistants in the quote, renewal, and financial underwriting of small and mid-size accounts business.
- Ensure that the team meets the company's targets and underwriting policies.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve team performance and productivity.
- Provide guidance and support to team members on underwriting and risk analysis principles and techniques.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners, including account executives, business development directors, and group benefit market players.
- Ensure that the appropriate risk assumptions, pricing practices, and procedures are applied.
- Ensure underwriting policies, practices, and guidelines are rolled-out, understood, and adhered to.
- Manage financial reporting, participate in development action plans, and address issues as they arise.
- Support preparation and participate in quarterly business segment meetings with upper management.
- Coach, manage, and enable the development of team members.
- Ensure service standards, productivity, and quality targets are met.
- Support and participate in the identification of opportunities to continually enhance operations, namely through the Continuous Improvement process of Brighter Way Management System.
- Provide advice and expertise on financial, underwriting, and business issues to team members, business development partners, management, advisors, and clients.
- Participate/contribute as part of the Central Corporate Accounts Underwriting Management Team, including projects and initiatives as required.
Requirements:
- Previous people management experience.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including flexibility/creativity in order to respect client's unique needs while considering impact on risk.
- Capacity to manage change initiatives.
