About the Research Team:
At Scotiabank, research is integral to our Global Equity platform. We focus on the Canadian market while also providing targeted international insights, particularly in the U.S. and Latin America. Our highly regarded teams generate valuable equity ideas and thematic publications, continuously seeking innovative ways to deliver impactful research to our clients. Our research products include daily investment insights, monthly and quarterly sector analyses, comprehensive fundamental research reports, portfolio evaluations, and equity strategy commentary.

Position Overview:
As an Equity Research Associate, you will thrive in a dynamic and challenging work environment. Working alongside a seasoned Research Analyst, you will develop financial forecasts and produce research publications that empower our clients to make informed investment choices.

With a collaborative team structure and minimal hierarchy, you will have the opportunity to cultivate relationships with institutional and corporate clients, gain in-depth sector knowledge, enhance your financial modeling and valuation capabilities, and deepen your understanding of capital markets. This role is based in Toronto.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough financial statement analyses and maintain financial models.
  • Perform detailed industry research utilizing various financial and industry sources.
  • Gather, consolidate, and interpret data related to companies and industries.
  • Assist in drafting research publications, including daily commentary, company and industry reports, and thematic research analyses.
  • Monitor market news and evaluate data to identify short and long-term trends.
  • Prepare presentations for meetings with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage inquiries from institutional investors.
  • Build and maintain relationships with investor relations and management of companies within your coverage.
  • Collaborate with sales, trading, and other departments while adhering to regulatory guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • A university degree in business or a related field.
  • An MBA, Master of Finance, CPA designation, or progress/completion of the CFA program is preferred.
  • Experience in finance, analytics, corporate development, or M&A is advantageous.
  • Sector-specific experience is a plus.
  • Strong skills in accounting, financial modeling, and analytical reasoning.
  • Proficiency in analyzing financial statements and valuing companies.
  • Familiarity with Bloomberg and FactSet.
  • Excellent command of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Sound business judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Capacity to perform under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Adept at managing multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • A high level of energy and a strong desire to learn.

Work Arrangement:
This position is currently an on-site role, with an expectation of working at least four days a week in the office. This arrangement may change based on business needs.
