Job Overview

Under the guidance of the Learning Support Coordinator, the Educational Support Facilitator offers a range of instructional and assistance services to individuals enrolled in Employment Training & Preparation initiatives.

These individuals face diverse cognitive, developmental, emotional, physical, and/or mental health challenges and require tailored support to achieve their personal career aspirations.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversight of learners, either individually or in small groups, within classroom and lab settings, with or without instructor presence:

  • Clarifies and reinforces student and program objectives;
  • Interprets and supports individual learning plans for students;
  • Addresses student inquiries regarding assigned tasks, often providing guidance and direction;
  • Monitors student performance, documents progress, and identifies areas of concern;
  • Delivers educational content in various formats to ensure students achieve learning outcomes;
  • Reinforces behavioral goals of the program;
  • Collaborates with faculty in assessing student performance and developing recommendations through regular reporting on observed behaviors;
  • Presents educational materials to groups or individuals under faculty direction;
  • Facilitates group discussions to support learning objectives established by faculty;
  • Adapts, creates, and maintains educational materials under faculty guidance;
  • Ensures learning labs are well-maintained and stocked with necessary supplies;
Oversight of Community Learning Activities

  • Engages with student activity sites to become familiar with their environments. Contributes to the development, implementation, and monitoring of learning plans for students based on these sites;
  • Provides ongoing instructional support for students in alignment with their learning plans and designated learning sites;
  • Maintains regular communication with site supervisors and the student's support network, as directed by faculty;
  • Observes and assesses student performance during planned activities;

Supervision of Work Experience Opportunities:

  • Identifies and cultivates employer relationships for community work experience placements;
  • Assists faculty and students in selecting suitable work placements;
  • Drafts agreements with employers for student placements using standardized forms;
  • Organizes site tours for students;
  • Accompanies students on initial work placements to introduce them to their job responsibilities;
  • Initiates and maintains ongoing communication with work site supervisors regarding student placements;
  • Educates employers about the nature of a student's disability and its potential impact on job performance;
  • Collaborates with employers to clarify expectations and guidelines for work experience placements;
  • Monitors, supports, documents, and provides regular updates to faculty on student performance at work sites;
  • Arranges and participates in evaluation meetings between students and work site supervisors to ensure fair and accurate assessments;

Additional Duties:

  • Facilitates student connections and communication with other college programs and community organizations;
  • Maintains student records by ensuring relevant information is accurately filed;
  • Assists in the intake process for students and supports them through application, registration, and financial aid procedures;
  • Contributes to departmental and college marketing initiatives;
  • Performs other related duties of similar scope and complexity.

Qualifications:
A two-year diploma in special education from a recognized post-secondary institution and three years of experience working with adults in educational or related environments, including at least one year of direct experience with adults with special needs, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships and collaborate effectively with colleagues in a team-oriented environment; possess the ability to work independently with minimal supervision; and communicate effectively with students, their families, staff, faculty, administration, and relevant external organizations. Proficiency in various software applications, including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and Photoshop, is required.
