Key Responsibilities

Safety and 5S Management

  • Collaborate with team members to implement and uphold safety programs in compliance with regulations.
  • Oversee employee training initiatives.
  • Conduct timely accident/incident investigations to identify root causes and corrective actions, ensuring thorough documentation.
  • Encourage proactive identification and mitigation of workplace hazards.
  • Perform regular audits of the workplace and storage areas to ensure adherence to policies and procedures, documenting inspections appropriately.

Personnel Management

  • Ensure equitable treatment of all team members in accordance with company Policies & Standards of Conduct.
  • Maintain adequate staffing levels with appropriate cross-training and backup support to optimize productivity.
  • Manage vacation and absence schedules effectively.
  • Administer the Performance Evaluation process, including setting objectives, rating performance, and recommending wage increases.
  • Oversee the Performance Improvement Program.
  • Ensure Supervisors are effectively managing their teams.
  • Maintain up-to-date Job Descriptions for all Team Members.
  • Create and update documented processes and procedures, ensuring all Team Members receive adequate training and conducting routine compliance audits.
  • Lead, coach, and mentor staff to enhance their skills and capabilities.

Facility Management

  • Operate and maintain all company-owned facilities to meet or exceed local, provincial, and federal regulations.
  • Administer facility fire protection services and security systems, ensuring compliance with fire codes and company standards.
  • Coordinate and lead third-party insurance audits, responding appropriately to recommendations.
  • Maintain office and common areas to meet organizational standards.
  • Ensure all building services such as power, lighting, HVAC, water, drainage, waste removal, and janitorial services are reliable and meet organizational needs.
  • Plan, negotiate, evaluate, award, and manage contracts for maintenance and repair services.
  • Identify and implement energy and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Understand production requirements and ensure adequate equipment for efficient manufacturing.
  • Establish and manage a Total Productive Maintenance program and Work Order system to enhance operational effectiveness and asset utilization.
  • Direct and manage third-party contractors providing maintenance and support services.

Performance Management

  • Set daily, monthly, and annual safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance goals aligned with Operations objectives.
  • Establish Key Performance Indicators, monitor, and report performance through Dashboards and A-3's, identifying specific issues and plans for gap closure.
  • Participate in Tier 2 meetings with Team Leads to monitor daily performance and provide feedback.
  • Schedule routine communication sessions and deliver presentations as necessary.
  • Address significant equipment, material, or information flow issues promptly, initiating corrective action plans.
  • Communicate potential issues that could negatively impact Maintenance or Facilities performance to relevant leadership.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure clear mutual expectations and timely communication of issues.

Business and Continuous Improvement Plans

  • Develop an annual Department Business Plan with clear Objectives, Key Initiatives, and KPIs.
  • Lead Maintenance & Facilities projects and participate in corporate projects to support business objectives.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and establish a Continuous Improvement program for the Department.
  • Promote a culture of Continuous Improvement through Lean tools and methodologies, developing Change Leadership skills within the Department.
  • Sponsor, lead, or facilitate specific Continuous Improvement projects and the establishment of Standardized Work.
  • Facilitate Kaizen events and participate in operational department initiatives to support Continuous Improvement efforts.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Applied Science, preferably Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Skilled trade certification, preferably in Electrician, Millwright, Plumbing, or HVAC.
  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in maintenance and/or facilities management.
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing and managing Total Productive Maintenance programs.
  • Strong planning and project management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Strategic problem-solving skills with the capacity to develop and implement tactical solutions.
  • Proven ability to coach, mentor, and develop team members.
  • Track record of leading change and achieving results.
