Key Responsibilities:

Northern Strands is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Manager to oversee shop operations. The primary focus of this role is to manage the workflow within the facility, guide and mentor a team of mechanics, millwrights, and laborers, and ensure that all tasks are performed safely and efficiently. The equipment serviced includes machinery from both internal and external clients.

Core Duties:

Leadership Duties
  • Approximately 75% of the Mechanical Maintenance Manager's time will be spent on the shop floor, providing mentorship and hands-on support to the team.
  • Organize job schedules and oversee workflow within the shop.
  • Delegate tasks to employees based on their expertise and skill set.
  • Prepare weekly progress reports on ongoing jobs.
  • Mentor team members to enhance their technical skills and understanding of various equipment and tools.
  • Conduct training sessions on the use of trade tools, including cranes and diagnostic instruments.
  • Ensure the team comprehends the workflow necessary for effective diagnosis and repair in line with quality assurance protocols.
  • Manage team performance, training, and disciplinary actions.
Mechanical Responsibilities
  • Track and manage equipment under repair.
  • Oversee recertification and repairs on various machinery, including:
  • Heavy construction and mining equipment.
  • Engine components.
  • Automobiles.
  • Hoisting devices.
  • Generators and fans.
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Company fleet vehicles.
  • Diagnose issues by observing equipment operation and utilizing precision measuring tools.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks and schedule future maintenance sessions.
  • Repair or replace malfunctioning components.
  • Utilize diagrams and manuals to troubleshoot issues.
  • Prepare accurate estimates for repair costs and timelines.
  • Test repaired equipment to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Occasional travel may be required for onsite repairs.
Inventory Management
  • Maintain optimal inventory levels of equipment and supplies.
  • Anticipate and order necessary parts and equipment.
  • Verify incoming orders and manage receipts.
Administrative Duties
  • Assist in refining work order processes.
  • Document repairs, including inspection checklists and time spent.
  • Provide necessary information for invoicing and record-keeping.

Qualifications:

  • Journeyman or equivalent apprenticeship in a recognized program.
  • At least 10 years of experience in machinery diagnostics and repair.
  • Proven leadership experience.
  • Safety training and certifications are advantageous.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents and specifications.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
