Position Overview:

As the Chief Executive Officer for Medical Initiatives, you will lead our organization in promoting health education and environmental awareness among elementary school students. This role requires a hybrid work model, necessitating in-office presence for at least three days each week.

About The HEAL Project:

The HEAL Project is dedicated to educating young learners in San Mateo County about the origins of their food and its significance through engaging, hands-on programs in classrooms and gardens. Our mission is to instill healthy lifestyle choices while fostering a deep understanding of environmental and agricultural issues through an interactive curriculum.


Team Structure:

Our team consists of 12 dedicated staff members, including both full-time and part-time roles, along with one independent contractor, amounting to a total of 7 full-time equivalents. We prioritize directing our resources to the public schools that need them the most, and we continuously seek innovative ways to enhance our impact in collaboration with local youth service organizations.


Leadership Responsibilities:
  • Inspire and engage all stakeholders, including staff, board members, volunteers, and donors, to promote our mission and encourage community involvement.
  • Foster a cohesive organizational culture that emphasizes inclusivity and belonging.
  • Act as a representative of The HEAL Project within the broader community, engaging in networking opportunities and building relationships with local officials and educational leaders.
  • Develop partnerships with the Board of Directors, equipping them with the necessary resources and training to serve as effective ambassadors for the organization.

Impact and Program Management:
  • Collaborate with Program Managers to ensure alignment of all initiatives with The HEAL Project's mission and Theory of Change.
  • Establish and maintain effective evaluation systems for our programs, adapting to the evolving needs of our students and community.
  • Lead fundraising efforts, working closely with the Board and staff to plan and execute annual fundraising events and develop a comprehensive fundraising strategy.

Financial Oversight:

Partner with the Associate Director, Business Operations Manager, and contracted accountant to ensure accurate financial record-keeping and management.


Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 3-5 years in a director-level role, with prior executive experience preferred.
  • A Bachelor's degree is required; advanced degrees or equivalent experience are strongly preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
  • Must be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States.
  • Must pass a Tuberculosis test and a background check to work with children.

Staff members are responsible for their own transportation to job sites, with travel reimbursement provided for trips outside designated areas.
