We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Hospital Director to lead our veterinary hospital operations. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in managing hospital operations, leading teams, and driving business growth.
Key Responsibilities- Leadership
- Directly oversee all hospital operations and business activities, leading a team of professionals to achieve objectives.
- Partner effectively with the Medical Director to manage the hospital's overall operations, medicine, and patient care.
- Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve business objectives, managing operations to achieve desired outcomes.
- Direct the leadership team to resolve issues and drive growth within the hospital.
- Organize and conduct staff meetings, meeting regularly with managers to discuss, evaluate, and plan for the welfare of the practice.
- Attend corporate meetings and contribute to the development of the hospital's culture and vision.
- Consciously shape a positive hospital culture based on trust and teamwork, catering to the needs of clients and referring veterinarians.
- Oversee the recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of staff in conjunction with the Medical Director.
- Monitor employee competence and effectiveness through manager feedback and observation, as well as staff performance and salary reviews.
- Collaborate on the recruitment, interviewing, contract negotiation, and hiring of doctors in conjunction with the Medical Director.
- Work closely with the Medical Director to establish the best medical care while maintaining the positive financial health of the hospital.
- Exhibit a calming, humble, and teachable attitude while addressing decisive change within the hospital.
- Possess a passion for providing resources, support, and supervision for hospital staff, fostering a positive and forward-moving culture.
- Strategic Orientation
- Develop an in-depth understanding of the local market and relationships with referring general practice veterinarians to understand their needs.
- Participate in and support planned marketing events and programs, ensuring hospital staff utilizes marketing tools and materials, events, and programs.
- Identify and execute short- and long-term plans for growth, including the addition of new services, recruitment of doctors and other key team members, pricing strategies, space optimization, and acquisitions of new equipment.
- Financial Analysis & Planning
- Responsible for accounting and finance processes within the hospital, creating an annual operating budget to achieve overall revenue growth and profitability.
- Lead hospital financial activities, including monthly review of financial statements and appropriate corrective action in response to variances and trends.
- Apply continuous improvement principles to existing financial and operating processes, maintaining constant communication and feedback loop with doctors and hospital staff.
- Own the P&L and responsible for meeting and exceeding expected financial results.
- Review accounts receivable to confirm proper and timely processing.
- Responsible for payroll processing on a biweekly basis.
- Business Operations
- Drive results across all elements of the business, setting goals and evaluating progress toward goals.
- Help each person on the team develop a deep understanding of the mission, vision, and values, and how individual work is aligned with business goals that contribute to and ultimately drive success.
- Partner effectively with Ethos and technology providers to support and enhance hospital activities and the experience of clients and referring veterinarians.
- Direct growth activities to support business objectives and plans, providing thought leadership, coaching, and mentoring to elevate hospital leadership team—and the entire team—to increase performance and productivity levels.
- Understand lean principles and identify and execute opportunities to improve processes and create efficiencies.
- Understand how to grow and develop De Novo locations as the market is able to bear expansion.
- Responsible for administration and review of non-medical client complaints.
- Oversee billing, calculations of any discounts, and other special accounts.
- Oversee client flow to ensure that clients and patients are seen and treated in a professional, timely, and competent manner.
- 5+ years of progressive operational management experience with a record of success, including experience owning a P&L.
- MBA or equivalent experience is preferred.
- Larger scale healthcare (veterinary or human) experience ideal.
- Learns quickly and can absorb new information rapidly.
- Self-motivated while also an expert at motivating, coaching, and inspiring others.
- Ability to roll up your sleeves and get things done with enthusiastic participation, including flexible and irregular hours and role descriptions to support the hospital.
- Proficient in Microsoft applications - Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
