Job Summary

The Production Manager is a key member of the Drama Department at Mount Allison University, responsible for overseeing the coordination of activities in the Motyer Fancy Theatre. This includes scheduling, production management, and budgeting for a theatre season that can feature up to 8 productions per year.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Resident Designer to establish production and season schedules, and lead production meetings.
  • Develop and manage production budgets, working closely with the Director of Drama and the Resident Designer.
  • Crewing of productions, including coordinating with technical staff and student technicians.
  • Technical coordination for productions, including lighting and sound design, and implementation of designs.
  • Mentor students in theatre production, including independent studies and informal guidance.
  • Coordinate stage management for productions, including student mentorship and on-site supervision.
  • Supervise student technicians in theatre production and front of house operations.
  • Recommend, purchase, and ensure safe implementation of equipment in the theatre and theatre shops.
  • Purchase general supplies and equipment for the Drama and Screen Studies program.
  • Responsible for facility management, including inventory and equipment maintenance, and organization of theatre spaces.
  • Provide audio-visual support for events in the theatre.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Professional/academic training in Theatre Production or equivalent combination of education and experience (3-5 years).
  • Knowledge/experience in lighting and sound design is an asset.
  • Teaching/supervisory experience is an asset.
  • First Aid training and Fall Arrest certification (can be executed on-site).
