Role Overview and Responsibilities

As a part of our team of military-trained instructor pilots, you will contribute to an engaging and dynamic learning environment for students as they master the CT156 Harvard aircraft. Your responsibilities will include conducting instructional flights with Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) students and instructors, which encompasses pre-flight and post-flight briefings, as well as evaluating student performance and readiness to advance through the established training pathways defined by the RCAF.

Contracted by the RCAF, you will provide in-flight instruction on the CT156 aircraft, becoming qualified to instruct on various mission types, including Clearhood, Instrument, Navigation, Formation, and Composite missions as specified in the relevant Instructional Training Plans (ITP).

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Attending weather briefings relevant to assigned flight schedules;
  • Maintaining flying proficiency and currency in accordance with applicable regulations;
  • Updating FlightPro currencies and obligations as necessary;
  • Ensuring student progress aligns with the ITP;
  • Providing comprehensive briefings to students prior to each dual or solo mission;
  • Executing instructional sorties following RCAF instructional guidelines;
  • Conducting thorough debriefings for students after each dual mission;
  • Reporting any student deficiencies to the Flight Commander;
  • Completing and submitting progress cards in a timely manner;
  • Assisting the flight commander in monitoring instructor continuity for assigned students;
  • Preparing and delivering presentations on instructional topics as needed;
  • Adhering to the CAF Flight Safety protocols as outlined in the relevant manuals.

Qualifications Required:

Candidates must possess prior experience as a qualified military pilot and successfully complete RCAF-furnished conversion and flight instructor training on the CT156. Additional requirements include:

  • A minimum of two years of operational experience as a military pilot, achieving Aircraft Commander status; or
  • AIMB qualification with two years of flight instructor experience, or equivalent qualifications recognized by 2 Cdn Air Div.

Non-native English speakers must demonstrate proficiency by passing the TOEFL with advanced results in all sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing.

Candidates should also have military or professional flying experience within the last decade, maintain a TC category 1 medical certificate, and meet the physical requirements for the CT156.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Previous experience as a CT156 NFTC QFI;
  • A minimum of a Commercial Pilot's License;
  • Experience leading flights in trainer or fighter aircraft;
  • Background in military instruction;
  • Proficiency in verbal French.

All candidates must successfully pass a security evaluation in compliance with the Controlled Goods Directorate of Canada and meet all necessary re-transfer authorization requirements in accordance with US ITAR regulations.
