The Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our Family Newborn Care Unit team at IWK Health Centre. As a member of our interdisciplinary care team, you will provide holistic, comprehensive evidenced-based care to meet the needs of individuals, families, and communities.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and be licensed with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing. They will also have current experience in postpartum or neonatal nursing and be proficient in other languages. The ideal candidate will be able to provide leadership in nursing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient/family care, and will have a sound understanding of and commitment to family-centred maternity care and mother-baby nursing.

The Registered Nurse will work collaboratively with other nurses and health team members to provide quality patient/family care, and will engage in independent, interdependent, and dependent functions to provide healthcare focusing on comprehensive assessment, patient/family education, and coordination of care.

The successful candidate will be responsible for building professional relationships with other nurses and health team members, and will contribute to a sustainable healthcare system through formal and informal partnerships. They will also pursue excellence in care, teaching, and research through a spirit of inquiry, discovery, and innovation.

Hours of Work

The Registered Nurse will work 11.25-hour shifts, rotating shifts (0700-1900, 1900-0700).

Your Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required
  • Licensed, or eligible to be licensed, with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing required
  • Current successful completion of a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support Level (BLS) Program within the last 12 months, or successful completion of a BLS Renewal Challenge Certificate, required
  • Current experience in postpartum or neonatal nursing preferred
  • Successful candidates are expected to orientate to all duties within FNCU (Post Partum, Follow-Up Clinic, Team Lead)
  • NRP Certification an asset
  • IBCLC considered an asset
  • Sound understanding of, and commitment to family-centred maternity care and mother-baby nursing required
  • Competency in other languages considered an asset
