Job Summary

The Government of Prince Edward Island is seeking a skilled Family Service Worker to join our Child Protection Team. As a key member of our team, you will provide critical support to families in need, helping them to develop essential life skills, build strong relationships, and achieve their goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Family Support and Case Management: Provide individual and family support in areas such as parenting knowledge and skills, life skills, safety risk assessment, budgeting, conflict resolution, and self-esteem building.
  • Community Resource Connection: Assist clients in connecting with available community resources, including social services, healthcare, and education.
  • Family Preservation and Reunification: Work with parents to develop improved skills in childcare, coping skills, household maintenance, and other relevant life skills, with the goal of preserving and strengthening family relationships.
  • Facilitation and Supervision: Facilitate and supervise family visits, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all parties involved.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Communicate and confer with Child Protection Social Workers and foster care providers to ensure seamless case management and support.
  • Case Review and Planning: Regularly review caseloads with the Supervisor and Child Protection Social Workers to review progress and make necessary adjustments to case plans.
  • Support to Foster Caregivers and Children-in-Care: Provide support to foster caregivers and children-in-care, ensuring their needs are met and their well-being is prioritized.
  • Transportation and Court Support: Transport clients, infants, children, and youth in care, and provide evidence in Court proceedings under the Child Protection Act.
  • Group Work and Case Notes: Facilitate group work and complete daily case notes and maintain client files on ISM.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A strong understanding of child protection principles and practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong case management and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
