Position Overview:

The Assistant Controller plays a crucial role in the aggregation, communication, and reporting of corporate financial data to both internal and external stakeholders. This position is also tasked with leading and managing the Corporate Accounting Team, ensuring effective execution of cash management, budgeting, auditing, financial reporting, and investment oversight.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspire, guide, and mentor the Corporate Accounting team to ensure the effective delivery of services associated with this role.
  • Oversee performance management, foster collaboration, and proactively plan for the future direction of the team.
  • Collaborate with direct reports to set annual performance goals and objectives, monitoring progress to enhance professional growth.
  • Address challenging personnel matters directly, exercising appropriate discretion and transparency.
  • Manage recruitment, terminations, and performance assessments for team members within the Corporate Accounting department.
  • Drive continuous enhancement of accounting and financial processes/controls, aiming for best practices, optimal output, process efficiency, and risk reduction.
  • Provide managerial oversight of cash management, investments, balance sheet reconciliations, and profit and loss account reconciliations.
  • Ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled to the General Ledger on a quarterly basis (at a minimum) for accounts within the scope of this role.
  • Oversee and/or prepare financial reporting, tax remittances, and account variance analyses as required.
  • Distribute monthly financial reports to management and external stakeholders.
  • Supervise monthly journal entries.
  • Play a key role in the development of annual budgets, forecasts, and analyses of actual results.
  • Lead the preparation of working papers for interim and annual audits.
  • Take ownership of the accounting system and general ledger coding.
  • Support the Finance Team in various projects and additional finance-related tasks as necessary.
  • Participate in training initiatives to ensure backup coverage for essential tasks and responsibilities.
  • Manage multiple assignments concurrently with minimal supervision.

Education:

CPA designation is required.

Experience:

Advanced knowledge of accounting principles and software, with a minimum of 5 years in an accounting or finance setting, including at least 1 year in a managerial role.
