Department Head

As a Department Head in Emergency Medicine, you will play a critical role in delivering high-quality patient care and leading a team of medical professionals.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate functions and activities of department members in the facility, ensuring effective delivery of clinical services within regional and site service delivery plans.
- Liaise with Regional Department Head and department medical staff to establish, monitor, and ensure compliance with budget, volume, and quality targets.
- Engage department members in multidisciplinary quality improvement and utilization management activities, ensuring compliance with regional department standards.
- Investigate complaints regarding care provided by medical staff within the facility, under the direction of the Regional Department Head.
- Attend Multidisciplinary Healthcare Coordinating Committee meetings and serve as a channel of communication between the regional department and facility staff.
- Recommend policies and guidelines related to medical/clinical matters, ensuring consistency with Medical Staff bylaws and rules.
- Promote health and wellness among department members and encourage a healthy, respectful workplace.
- Review physician resource requirements with the Regional Department Head and contribute to the selection of new staff members.
- Mediate disputes involving department members at the site and identify potential liability issues and legal problems within the facility.
- Current licensure with CPSBC and two years of leadership experience in the healthcare sector.
- Additional training in management is preferred, and prior academic leadership experience is an asset.
- Demonstrated senior leadership in roles to lead and move forward complex organizational change issues across health service programs.
- Demonstrated senior leadership in roles to integrate and lead complex organizational change issues in innovative medical education and creative models of patient care.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities to incorporate program needs within the broader context of the health delivery system and multiple program requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to work and lead within a matrix reporting structure.
- Sound working knowledge of planning concepts related to service delivery, budgetary, staffing, quality, and strategic initiatives.
- Proven verbal and written communication and presentation skills within a senior leadership capacity.
- Proven proficiency leading practice of the field of health program leadership.
