Job Overview:
The ACE Fabrication Operations Supervisor is a pivotal role requiring a licensed and seasoned machinist and/or tool maker. This position encompasses the oversight of research and development, commercialization, and demonstration initiatives. Responsibilities include managing investments, procurement processes, implementation strategies, lead times, resources, and providing technical and manufacturing oversight.

Key Responsibilities:

The ACE Fabrication Operations Supervisor reports directly to the ACE Executive Director and spearheads projects necessitating specialized and innovative methodologies. This role involves assembling and managing project teams to meet timelines and implementation milestones.

This position demands a hands-on leader to deliver technical guidance and mentorship, sharing expertise with internal engineers and technicians to ensure efficient product design and manufacturing.

The Supervisor is accountable for managing and executing all machining and fabrication operations, advanced manufacturing processes, and the specification and implementation of all equipment, shop design, and workflow, including safety and hazardous material management.

The role requires technical proficiency in the operation of all machining and fabrication machinery.

The Supervisor is responsible for ensuring safety standards within the fabrication facility, which includes maintaining all machinery and equipment in optimal condition, adhering to safety protocols, and managing hazardous materials and risk.

Additionally, the Supervisor oversees business management and procurement responsibilities to maintain adequate supply levels in the fabrication shop. This includes monitoring inventory levels of tools and consumables, sourcing suppliers, placing orders, and ensuring timely payments.

The Supervisor reviews and provides insights on designs, fabrication, assembly, and commissioning of specialized machines, fixtures, tooling, and unique prototype builds. This necessitates direct communication with external industry clients and academic researchers regarding project specifications.

The Supervisor serves as a key resource for maintenance, leading essential scheduled and annual maintenance and repair of critical ACE CRF chambers and processes. This includes collaborating on long-term solutions and continuous improvement initiatives with ACE Engineers and Technicians.

This role is also crucial for addressing unscheduled and emergency repairs that require innovative manufacturing and fabrication solutions, ensuring all specialized ACE Fabrication Shop equipment and tools are well-maintained.

The Supervisor collaborates closely with project staff and provides direct supervision to limited-term full-time and part-time employees based on project needs. This includes hands-on training for Engineers, Technicians, and Engineering Students, Interns, and Co-ops. The Supervisor also advises on student capstone projects conducted in the fabrication shop.

The Supervisor ensures compliance with all safety protocols throughout ACE and the fabrication facility.

The ACE operation runs on multiple shifts, including afternoons and weekends. Candidates must be prepared to work irregular hours and be flexible with varying shifts based on client requirements.
