The Fabrication Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the ACE Fabrication Space, ensuring the efficient and effective management of machining and fabrication processes. This includes the supervision of project teams, technical expertise in machining and fabrication equipment, and the development of investment and procurement strategies.
Nature of Work & ResponsibilitiesThe Fabrication Shop Manager reports to the ACE Executive Director and is responsible for leading projects that require specialized and innovative approaches. This includes the assembling and managing of project teams for timelines and implementation milestones, as well as providing technical supervision and mentorship to internal engineers and technicians.
The position is responsible for managing and performing all machining and fabrication processes, advanced manufacturing, specification and implementation of all equipment, shop design and process flow, including safety and hazardous material handling.
The Manager must have technical expertise in the operation of all machining and fabrication equipment and be responsible for all aspects of safety within the fabrication shop, including making sure all machines and equipment are in good repair and maintained properly, following safety protocols and lab rules.
The Manager oversees the business management and purchasing responsibilities for maintaining suitable levels of supplies on hand in the fabrication shop, including checking inventory levels of tools and consumables, finding suppliers, placing orders, and ensuring payments are made.
The Manager reviews and provides feedback on designs, fabrication, assembly, and commissioning of specialized machines, fixtures, tooling, and one-off prototype builds, requiring direct communication with external industry clients as well as academic researchers of all project requirements.
The Manager is the key resource for maintenance, leading critical elements of the scheduled and annualized maintenance and repair of essential ACE CRF chambers and processes, including the collaborative development of long-term solutions and continuous improvement of ACE CRF equipment and processes with ACE Engineers and Technicians.
This position is also critical for unscheduled and emergency repairs requiring manufacturing and fabrication solutions, maintaining all specialized ACE Fabrication Shop equipment and tools, and ensuring all safety protocols are being followed throughout ACE and the fabrication shop.
