Job Summary

The Fabrication Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the ACE Fabrication Space, ensuring the efficient and safe production of high-quality products. This role requires a licensed and experienced machinist and/or tool maker with strong leadership and project management skills.

Nature of Work & Responsibilities

The Fabrication Shop Manager reports to the ACE Executive Director and leads projects that require specialized and innovative approaches. This includes assembling and managing project teams for timelines and implementation milestones. The successful candidate will provide technical supervision and mentorship, sharing technical knowledge and experience with internal engineers and technicians to ensure products can be designed and built in an efficient manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and perform all machining and fabrication processes, advanced manufacturing, and specification and implementation of all equipment, shop design, and process flow, including safety and hazardous material handling.
  • Oversee the business management and purchasing responsibilities for maintaining suitable levels of supplies on hand in the fabrication shop.
  • Review and provide feedback on designs, fabrication, assembly, and commissioning of specialized machines, fixtures, tooling, and one-off prototype builds.
  • Manage and maintain all specialized ACE Fabrication Shop equipment and tools.
  • Ensure all safety protocols are being followed throughout ACE and the fabrication shop.
Requirements
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in advanced development and prototyping, 15 years preferred.
  • Machining expertise.
  • Supervision experience.
  • Fabrication experience.
  • Project management experience.
  • Time management skills.
  • Project team management experience.
Education
  • Completion of a 3-year post-secondary program.
  • Certified skilled trade machinist and/or tool maker.
  • Post-secondary college diploma.
  • Certificate of all qualifications.
