Job Summary:

The YMCA of Greater Toronto is seeking a Lifeguard & Swim Instructor to join our team. As a Lifeguard & Swim Instructor, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of our members and participants while also providing high-quality swim instruction.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety of members and participants in the pool area, responding to emergencies and providing first aid as needed.
  • Teach swim lessons to children and adults, using a variety of teaching methods and techniques to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Develop and maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment, promoting a love of swimming and a sense of community among participants.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff members to ensure a smooth and efficient operation of the pool and swim program.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay up-to-date on the latest teaching methods and safety protocols.

Requirements:

  • Current certifications in Lifesaving Society awards, including National Lifeguard (NL) and Standard First Aid & CPR level C.
  • Current YMCA or Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor certification.
  • Previous experience in lifeguarding and swim instruction an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people.
  • Flexibility regarding assigned hours of work, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
