As a Senior Accountant within our International Corporate Tax division, you will be part of a diverse group of professionals dedicated to crafting tailored tax strategies that navigate complex regulatory environments. Your role will involve acting as a trusted advisor, enabling clients to enhance operational efficiencies, reduce global tax burdens, and fulfill their international reporting obligations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage international corporate tax projects, providing insights on tax planning opportunities, global tax reduction strategies, and compliance matters for Canadian businesses operating abroad.
  • Offer specialized knowledge regarding intricate offshore tax and assurance challenges through client engagements, detailed reports, and high-quality deliverables.
  • Support clients in determining optimal corporate structures from a tax perspective across various jurisdictions, including advising on effective capitalization and financing strategies.
  • Conduct due diligence and modeling related to potential acquisitions by Canadian firms of foreign subsidiaries, partnerships, or business operations.
  • Investigate client inquiries arising from compliance or planning activities, including the implications of different tax treaty provisions on taxpayers.
  • Strategically assess client needs by gaining a deep understanding of their business, identifying key risks, and exploring ways to enhance client relationships.
  • Collaborate with the client engagement team prior to project initiation to clarify roles, responsibilities, risk areas, materiality, and timelines.
  • Lead engagement teams, fostering strong client relationships while mentoring and guiding junior staff members.
  • Contribute to the innovation of new ideas and methodologies to enhance work processes.
  • Engage in business development efforts to identify and pursue new opportunities.
  • Be prepared to travel as required.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in commerce or business administration, preferably with a focus on accounting or finance.
  • Progress towards a CPA designation; completion of the CFE examination and relevant practical experience will also be considered.
  • 2 to 4 years of pertinent public accounting or tax experience.
  • Familiarity with U.S. or international personal, partnership, trust, and corporate tax in a public practice setting is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in accounting and tax software.
