Position Overview:

Durham College is in search of a skilled and enthusiastic professional who aligns with our dedication to quality education and student achievement. The Faculty of Science, Engineering and Information Technology is looking for a part-time professor to instruct INST 1104 – Instrumental Analysis, specifically for the Water Quality program.

This course provides students with insights into process instrumentation and controls utilized in the water and wastewater sectors. Participants will learn about the operation of instruments that measure, control, and monitor essential plant process variables such as flow, level, and pressure, as well as analytical instruments for assessing conditions like turbidity, chlorine residual, and pH levels.

Key Responsibilities:

The role of a part-time professor at Durham College encompasses, but is not limited to:

  1. Fostering a positive educational environment that respects students' diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning preferences;
  2. Applying adult education principles to actively engage students in the learning journey;
  3. Effectively utilizing educational technologies to enhance learning, manage grades, and deliver hybrid and online courses;
  4. Developing curriculum that incorporates suitable strategies and tools for assessing student learning;
  5. Ensuring that course and program curricula remain current and relevant;
  6. Demonstrating initiative and the ability to work independently;
  7. Collaborating effectively with students, program teams, and various internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  1. A relevant degree, complemented by industry credentials (a Master's degree is advantageous).
  2. Experience in wastewater operations is preferred.
  3. A minimum of five years of recent and relevant professional experience.
  4. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level, with a solid understanding of Universal Design for Learning and contemporary assessment methodologies.
  5. Experience in industry-led or community-based applied research is a plus.
  6. Proficiency in utilizing current technologies to support student learning and grade management.
  7. A proven commitment to lifelong learning.
  8. Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including students, faculty, support staff, administrators, and community partners.
  9. A comprehensive understanding of the Ontario college system.
