Job Summary

This role is a key part of our care team, providing essential support to residents in our long-term care facility. As a Residential Care Assistant, you will work closely with our Director of Care and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality, person-centered care.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide holistic personal care to residents, ensuring their daily living needs are met, including personal hygiene, oral care, skin care, toileting, bathing, nail care, dressing, and grooming.
  2. Observe and report any changes in residents' functional and cognitive behavior to the Nurse.
  3. Transfer residents safely and efficiently, using mechanical lifts as needed.
  4. Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge of residents.
  5. Support nursing care, such as non-sterile dressings, enemas, suppositories, and skin care treatments, under the direction of the Nurse.
  6. Ensure residents' personal items are marked, handled, and stored properly, and process soiled personal clothing according to policy and procedures.
  7. Maintain confidentiality and respect residents' rights and dignity.
  8. Respond promptly to call bells and resident requests.
  9. Encourage residents to participate in social, physical, spiritual, and recreational activities, respecting their emotional, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural beliefs and practices.
  10. Participate in facility programs, meetings, committees, and resident care conferences to enhance your knowledge and skills.
Requirements
  • Graduate from a recognized Care Aide Program.
  • Previous experience in a long-term care facility is preferred.
  • Active registration with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
  • Food Safe Level 1 Certificate.
  • Pass a vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check.
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with residents, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Physical ability to perform repetitive tasks, lift, squat, bend, stand, and walk as required.
