Family Assistance Coordinator

Position Overview: Under the guidance of the Family Services Supervisor, the Family Service Worker will collaborate within a dedicated team to offer essential support and direction to families, children, and youth, adhering to the principles of the Child and Family Services Act. The role encompasses various services, including child protection, assessment, case management, and collaboration with caregivers and relevant parties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Investigate and assess reports of neglect or abuse, determining the level of risk and appropriate case planning strategies.
- Conduct thorough evaluations of children at risk, employing diverse, age-appropriate interviewing techniques to establish case objectives.
- Foster relationships with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds, crafting tailored case plans to address specific family challenges.
- Coordinate the provision of services to meet identified needs through effective case management, community resource referrals, advocacy, and supportive services.
- Deliver counseling to children and families, equipping them with strategies to reduce risks and enhance family functioning.
- Monitor client progress in accordance with service recommendations and cultivate collaborative relationships with caregivers for effective service delivery.
- Prepare and support foster parents and other caregivers in welcoming children into their homes, minimizing trauma and facilitating adjustment.
- Maintain ongoing communication with children, parents, birth families, and caregivers to ensure comprehensive support.
- Assist in transitioning children back to parental care when risks have been mitigated.
- Initiate permanent placement planning when necessary, ensuring all legal and procedural requirements are met.
- Compile and document necessary information for legal proceedings, collaborating with legal representatives as needed.
- Fulfill all administrative and reporting obligations, including assessments and documentation as per provincial standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work (BSW) or related field, with a minimum of two years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and five years of related experience.
- Knowledge in areas such as substance abuse, family violence, child maltreatment, and child development.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven abilities in crisis intervention, abuse investigation, and risk assessment.
- Experience working with Metis and Inuit communities is an asset.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for travel to various locations is required.
Applicants must provide satisfactory results of a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, a Child Abuse Registry Check, and a Driver's Abstract upon hire. A valid driver's license and the use of a personal vehicle are necessary for this role.
