Urban Forestry Specialist

The City of Côte Saint-Luc is seeking a dedicated Arboricultural Technician to play a vital role in enhancing urban forestry initiatives. This permanent full-time position entails a commitment of 35 hours per week, focusing on addressing urban challenges and promoting the health of our city's green spaces.
Key Responsibilities- Collaboration and Data Management: Partner with the Geomatics and Information System Division to maintain and update the digital inventory of public trees. Prepare detailed reports and ensure the accuracy of the database.
- Tree Health Evaluation: Assess the condition and environmental factors affecting trees and plants. Conduct field inspections, identify issues, and suggest appropriate interventions based on identified risks.
- Community Interaction: Serve as a bridge between city departments and the community. Manage digital platforms to keep residents informed about tree-related activities.
- Disease Prevention Strategies: Aid in formulating methods for identifying and preventing tree diseases, safeguarding our urban forests through an annual treatment program.
- Public Support: Address inquiries from citizens, providing clear information and potential solutions to their concerns.
- Research and Analysis: Conduct research to gather necessary information for resolving various stakeholder requests.
- Ownership Identification: Determine ownership of trees and plants through surveys and field measurements, facilitating compliance with regulations.
- Contract Management: Oversee contracts related to tree maintenance, ensuring adherence to established standards.
- Committee Involvement: Participate in relevant committees within the Public Works Department to share expertise and contribute to decision-making.
- Reporting and Documentation: Create reports and statistics as required by management to provide insights into activities.
- Planning and Technical Documentation: Develop plans, specifications, and reports related to arboricultural practices.
- Damage Assessment: Assist in preparing documentation for claims related to tree damage, evaluating costs for replacement or removal.
- Reforestation Initiatives: Contribute to the creation of tree planting and reforestation programs to enhance community greenery.
- Regulatory Compliance: Prepare requests for necessary authorizations, ensuring adherence to applicable regulations.
- Grant Collaboration: Work on grant applications to secure funding for tree-related projects.
- Training and Development: Mentor team members in tree care techniques, fostering professional growth.
- Environmental Partnerships: Collaborate with the Sustainable Environment division on specific projects.
- Supervision of Summer Students: Lead and mentor summer students, providing training and evaluating their contributions.
- College diploma (DEC) in arboriculture, landscaping, agronomy, or related fields.
- Two to three years of relevant experience.
- Proficient in Esri's ArcGis platform and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Construction site safety certification.
- Knowledge of horticulture is an asset.
- Fluency in written and spoken French.
- Year-end closure between Christmas and New Year's Day.
