As a vital contributor to urban forestry, this permanent full-time role entails a commitment of 35 hours per week. You will address urban challenges, ensure compliance with regulations, and engage in a variety of meaningful tasks aimed at enhancing our city's green spaces.
Key Responsibilities- Collaboration and Data Management: Partner with the Geomatics and Information System Division to maintain and update the computerized inventory of public trees. Prepare detailed reports, gather technical data, and uphold a thorough database.
- Tree Health Evaluation: Assess the health and environmental conditions of trees and plants through on-site inspections, diagnosing issues, and recommending suitable corrective measures based on identified risks.
- Community Engagement: Serve as a liaison between city departments and the public, managing online platforms to keep citizens informed about tree-related initiatives.
- Disease Prevention Strategies: Aid in formulating strategies for the screening and prevention of tree diseases, ensuring the sustainability of urban forests.
- Public Support: Address inquiries and requests from citizens, providing information and potential solutions during meetings.
- Research and Problem Resolution: Conduct research to gather necessary information for resolving various stakeholder requests.
- Ownership Identification: Determine tree and plant ownership through land surveys and field measurements, facilitating compliance with regulations.
- Contract Management: Oversee contracts related to tree maintenance, ensuring adherence to established standards.
- Committee Involvement: Participate in relevant committees within the Public Works Department to share insights and contribute to decision-making.
- Reporting and Analysis: Generate reports and statistics as required by management to provide insights and track activities.
- Planning and Documentation: Develop plans, create technical specifications, and prepare necessary documentation related to arboriculture.
- Damage Assessment: Assist in preparing claims related to tree damage, evaluating the extent of damage and determining costs for replacement or removal.
- Reforestation Initiatives: Contribute to the creation of tree planting and reforestation programs to enhance community greenery.
- Regulatory Compliance: Prepare requests for necessary authorizations, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
- Grant Collaboration: Work on grant applications related to arboriculture to secure funding for initiatives.
- Training and Mentorship: Provide guidance and training to team members in tree care techniques.
- Environmental Collaboration: Collaborate with the Sustainable Environment division on specific projects.
- Supervision of Summer Students: Lead and mentor summer students, providing training and evaluating their performance.
- College diploma (DEC) in arboriculture, landscaping, agronomy, or related fields.
- Two to three years of relevant experience.
- Proficient in Esri's ArcGis platform and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Safety card for construction sites.
- Knowledge of horticulture is an asset.
- Fluent in written and spoken French.
- Year-end closure between Christmas and New Year's Day.
