Position Overview

As a vital contributor to urban forestry, this permanent full-time role encompasses a 35-hour work week dedicated to addressing urban environmental challenges, ensuring compliance with regulations, and engaging in a variety of meaningful tasks to enhance our city's green spaces.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Collaboration and Data Management: Partner with the Geomatics and Information System Division to maintain and update the digital inventory of public trees. Prepare comprehensive reports and manage a detailed database.
  2. Tree Health Evaluation: Assess the vitality and environmental conditions of trees and plants through on-site inspections, diagnosing issues, and recommending suitable corrective measures.
  3. Community Interaction: Serve as a liaison between city departments and the public, managing online platforms to keep the community informed about tree-related initiatives.
  4. Disease Prevention Strategies: Assist in formulating strategies for identifying and preventing tree diseases, contributing to the sustainability of urban forests.
  5. Public Support: Address inquiries from citizens, providing information and potential solutions to their concerns.
  6. Research and Analysis: Conduct research to gather essential information for resolving various stakeholder requests.
  7. Ownership Identification: Determine tree and plant ownership through land surveys and field measurements, aiding in regulatory compliance.
  8. Contract Management: Oversee contracts related to tree maintenance, ensuring adherence to established standards.
  9. Committee Involvement: Participate in relevant committees within the Public Works Department to share insights and contribute to decision-making processes.
  10. Reporting and Documentation: Generate necessary reports and statistics to provide management with insights into activities.
  11. Planning and Technical Documentation: Develop plans, create technical specifications, and prepare relevant reports in your area of expertise.
  12. Damage Evaluation: Assist in compiling claims related to tree damage, evaluating costs for replacement or removal.
  13. Reforestation Initiatives: Contribute to the creation of tree planting and reforestation programs to enhance community greenery.
  14. Regulatory Adherence: Prepare requests for necessary authorizations, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
  15. Grant Collaboration: Work on grant applications related to tree initiatives, securing funding for projects.
  16. Training and Development: Mentor team members in tree care techniques, fostering professional growth.
  17. Environmental Partnerships: Collaborate with the Sustainable Environment division on various projects.
  18. Supervision of Seasonal Staff: Lead and supervise summer students, providing training and evaluating their performance.
Qualifications:
  • Possess a college diploma (DEC) in arboriculture, landscaping, agronomy, or a related field.
  • Have two to three years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Esri's ArcGis platform and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Hold a valid driver's license.
  • Possess a safety card for construction sites.
  • Knowledge of horticulture is an asset.
  • Fluency in written and spoken French is essential.
