Position Overview:
Durham College is in search of a skilled and passionate professional who aligns with our dedication to quality education and student achievement. The Faculty of Science, Engineering, and Information Technology is looking for a part-time professor to instruct Manufacturing Sciences within the Mechanical Engineering program.
This course is structured to provide students with a foundational, entry-level overview of various processes employed in a traditional machine and fabrication workshop. Students will also have the opportunity to apply theoretical concepts while safely and effectively operating hand and machine tools in a practical workshop setting, with a continuous emphasis on safety.
Key Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of part-time professors at Durham College encompass, but are not limited to:
- Fostering a positive learning atmosphere that respects students' diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning preferences;
- Employing adult education principles to actively engage students in the learning journey;
- Utilizing educational technologies to enhance learning, manage grades, and deliver hybrid and online courses;
- Designing curriculum that incorporates effective strategies and tools for assessing student learning;
- Ensuring course and program content remains current and relevant;
- Demonstrating independence and initiative in teaching;
- Collaborating effectively with students, program teams, and various internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- A relevant degree complemented by industry credentials (Master's degree is advantageous).
- A minimum of five years of recent and pertinent work experience.
- Experience in teaching at the post-secondary level, with a solid understanding of Universal Design for Learning and contemporary assessment methodologies.
- Participation in industry-led or community-based applied research is a plus.
- Proficiency in utilizing current technologies to facilitate student learning and manage grading.
- A proven commitment to lifelong learning.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including students, faculty, support staff, and community partners.
- Familiarity with the Ontario college system.
