About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused individual to join our team as a Guest Relations Customer Service Representative at the Calgary Zoo. As a key member of our front gate team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service to our visitors, ensuring a positive and memorable experience for all.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent customer service to visitors, responding to their inquiries and resolving any issues in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Manage crowd and line control, ensuring a smooth and efficient flow of visitors through the front gates.
  • Process sales transactions, including day admissions, memberships, and special events, while meeting or exceeding sales targets.
  • Operate a point-of-sale system, access control scanners, and other equipment as required.
  • Assist with the paid parking system, ensuring a seamless experience for visitors.
  • Provide line management and crowd control using a voice amplifier, ensuring visitors comply with Zoo policies.
  • Assist with special events, such as school bus arrivals, and ensure the safe and efficient movement of large groups through the tunnel.
  • Perform daily setup and teardown of signage, stanchions, barricades, and scanning desks, as well as other opening and closing duties as required.
  • Ensure the work area is clean, tidy, and sanitized, including all desk equipment, counter tops, staff kitchen, and high-touch zones.
  • Comply with the Zoo's health and safety program, ensuring a safe working environment for all staff and visitors.

Requirements:

  • Previous cash handling experience and point-of-sale experience.
  • Ability to reconcile and balance at the end of each shift.
  • Confidence working alone and in a team environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt quickly in a high-paced environment.
  • Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills, including the ability to navigate through difficult situations.
  • Some computer knowledge is required.
  • Flexibility and reliability for short-notice changes to shifts.
  • Responsible and mature work ethic.
  • Prompt and invested in seasonal work.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Working indoors and outdoors.
  • Prolonged sitting, standing, and walking throughout every shift.
  • Schedule will include weekdays and weekends with some early morning and evening hours when applicable.
  • Some light lifting is required to setup and take down signage, stanchions, barricades, and scanning desks.
  • Direct and constant interaction with Zoo visitors.
