Position Overview

Join Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a Clinical Nurse Specialist.

VCH is seeking a Registered Nurse to become part of the Drug and Alcohol Resource Team in Richmond, BC, serving as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. This is an opportunity to contribute to a dedicated team.

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist with VCH, your responsibilities will include:

  • Offering leadership and applying specialized knowledge to ensure the provision of safe, ethical, and high-quality care for specific patient populations.
  • Serving as a clinical resource, providing consultation and support to the interdisciplinary care team, fellow professionals, and students.
  • Advocating for excellence in patient-centered care, education, and research initiatives.
  • Engaging in direct patient and family care as necessary.
Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Active registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Completion of a post-basic specialty nursing program and a minimum of three (3) years of recent, relevant experience in the specialized clinical area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A valid BC Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle for local travel may be necessary.

  • Understanding of various healthcare disciplines and their roles in patient care.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both individual and group settings.
  • Competence in resolving conflict and guiding others through such situations.
  • Adaptability to new or unforeseen circumstances.
  • Leadership skills to facilitate change and support staff during transitions.
  • Proficiency in assessment and treatment techniques tailored to specialized patient populations, utilizing evidence-informed practices.
  • Experience in developing and delivering educational programs and materials for staff, patients, and families based on educational theories and best practices.
  • Familiarity with research processes and methodologies.
  • Skills in CPR techniques.
  • Computer literacy to manage a computerized client care information system and relevant software applications.
  • Ability to operate necessary equipment.
  • Physical capability to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
