Superintendent - Social Performance
Location: Red Chris Mine
Newcrest Mining is a prominent player in the global gold mining sector, recently expanding its operations to become a leader in the industry. The Red Chris mine operates on the traditional lands of the Tahltan Nation, and we actively encourage qualified candidates from local communities to consider this opportunity. We provide various designated transportation points within the region to facilitate access for our team members.
We are currently seeking a Superintendent - Social Performance who will receive a competitive salary based on experience, skills, and qualifications, along with a short-term incentive. The successful candidate will work on a Fly In, Fly Out schedule, rotating two weeks on and two weeks off.
Role Overview
The Social Performance function is integral to Newcrest's mission of generating value and enhancing lives through responsible mining practices. Reporting to the Sustainability Manager, the Superintendent will oversee the formulation, execution, and management of comprehensive social performance and community engagement initiatives at the Red Chris Mine. This role encompasses directing all aspects of social performance, Indigenous relations, and community development, crafting a strategic approach to social performance, and ensuring its effective implementation and assessment. Key responsibilities include:
- Developing engagement strategies and managing feedback mechanisms.
- Overseeing impact assessments and community investment initiatives.
- Ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices in social performance.
- Collaborating with various departments to integrate social considerations into operational planning.
- Monitoring social performance metrics and adjusting strategies as necessary.
Key Responsibilities
Governance and Strategy
- Ensure adherence to Newcrest's Social Performance Standards and relevant international practices.
- Coordinate compliance with Impact Benefit Agreements and report on progress.
- Collaborate with Human Resources and other departments to promote local employment and procurement initiatives.
- Facilitate cross-functional teamwork to enhance understanding of social performance issues.
- Lead community engagement efforts and oversee grievance management processes.
Operational Excellence
- Provide leadership to the Social Performance team in engaging with First Nations and local stakeholders.
- Develop and implement community engagement plans to foster collaboration.
- Monitor social performance trends and identify areas for improvement.
- Utilize data management tools to support informed decision-making.
Safety and Sustainability
- Review social performance data to ensure effective management.
- Promote a safe working environment and compliance with health and safety standards.
Candidate Profile
Ideal candidates will possess:
- A minimum of ten years of progressive experience in social performance and risk management within the mining sector.
- A relevant degree and knowledge of community engagement practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
